Is our memory reliable or unreliable?
[YouTube] 우리의 기억은 '진짜'인가 '가짜'인가?
It's not about whether your memory is correct or not, it's about an attitude you have about it.
In these days, I feel my memories start faded and become forgetful. Such a young age for that... probably cause of alcohol. Guess that's the reason why this video kind of force me to watch.
There were some stunning research about memory by Elizabeth Loftus in this video. The research was extremely interesting: There were two groups of ppl and both groups were watching same video of car accident. And researcher asked two different questions to them. 1st group was asked how fast were the cars going when they smashed? 2nd group was asked how fast were the cars going when they contacted? As the result, 1st group answered faster speed than 2nd group eventhough they watched same video. The answers were different only becasue the feeling of describing verbs have. Here is the most interesting part: Next question was how many broken pieces of glass they've seen from video or if they saw any broken glass or not. Like last time, 1st group answered they saw more pieces of glass or said they saw broken glass then 2nd group, However, there was no broken glass in the video. Also, there was another research about memory using picture of bug bunny in DisneyLand
In conclusion, the research shows us "Memory can be manipulated and distorted." Author Kang told us not to fight about who's memory is correct and emphasized about importance of writing down. Furthermore, it's more important to have right point of view and to focus on what kind of attitude we have about your memories than whether you remember it or not.
I've argued lots of time about who has right memory, and this youtube video tells me that was a waste of time and energy, but it's still hard to understand having right attitude about memories which are happened in the past. I was keep thinking about it and have found that the point is very relevent to the book I'm reading right now which explains about Adler's psychology. I hope to have better understand and deeper thought about this video after reading the book.
